Dom Arquitectura is a studio in Barcelona, which specialises in carrying out architecture, landscaping, interior design, ephemeral installation and refurbishment projects, both in Spain and abroad. This article features three of their spectacular works, all of them with kitchens fitted out with furniture designed by Santos.
Dom Arquitectura is a studio created in 2009 made up of Pablo Serrano Elorduy (Barcelona, 1979, architect) and Blanca Elorduy (Bilbao, 1951, interior designer). Pablo, its founder, took the ‘Cátedra Blanca’ course under Carlos Ferrater, and after that, he worked in his studio in 2003. He graduated as an architect from the ETSAB in Barcelona in 2004 and, in 2005, he joined the Scott Brownrigg studio in London. Afterwards, he returned to Barcelona, where he worked for the Bach Arquitectes studio until 2006, when he decided to forge his own path as an architect.
On the other hand, Blanca took up Interior Design at the Escuela Llar de Interiorismo in 1972. After some time working as a teacher at this school, she focused on her career as an interior designer. Since then, she has carried out different interior renovation projects in premises, flats, offices and restaurants, as well as landscaping projects, gardens, detached properties and refurbishments.
Dom Arquitectura is defined by a style that conveys feelings, with simple, clever design creating a sense of spaciousness. Its works are always based on an understanding of the user’s relationship with the project, with a focus on providing solutions to their specific needs. In addition, they showcase great attention to aspects such as lighting, proper use of materials and integration into the environment – whether natural, rural, urban or historic. In this regard, the studio takes a special interest in sustainable architecture that’s respectful towards the environment and focused on optimising construction costs and resources. In fact, in 2014, Pablo Serrano completed the ‘Passivhaus’ module for net zero buildings, which is part of the Master in Sustainable Design and Bioclimatic Architecture. And in 2015, he completed the ‘Construction Techniques: Straw, Mud, Stone and Wood’ module of the same Master’s degree.
